The Title IV.A area deals with the Safe and DrugFreeSchools and Communities. The funding for this program supports programs that prevent violence in and around schools and to prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The goals of the program also deal with maintaining school safety. Programs such as Positive Action, Rainbows, Active Parenting, DARE, and Conflict Management are incorporated into the Guidance curriculum. Each year goals for the Safe and DrugFreeSchools and Communities program are established.

District Goals and Activities
2008 - 09
Goal 1: It is the goal of the Carl Junction R-1 School District to support programs that cause our schools to be safer, prevent violence in and around our schools, and decrease the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. It is the goal of the Carl Junction R-1 School District to support programs that causes our schools to be safer, prevents violence in and around our schools, anddecreases the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
 
              To accomplish this goal the district will participate in the following
              activities: 
1) Hiring of a school resource officer/DARE officer
2) Installation and maintenance of security cameras to help insure a safer environment in the high school
3) Providing random drug testing for junior high and high school students involved in extra-curricular activities
4) Disseminating information to students through: the distribution of pamphlets and brochures, bringing in speakers to address the student body, and the providing of counseling sessions (individual, group, and classroom)
5) Training three percent more staff in Crisis Prevention Intervention
6) Training all district staff on signs and symptoms of drug abuse every three years
7) Increase the number of staff members trained in CPR
 
 
Goal 2: It is the goal of the Carl Junction R-1 School District to increase awareness and understanding of bullying and to disseminate information to the staff and students to reduce its impact on the lives of our students.
 
              To accomplish this goal the district will participate in the following
              activities: 
1) Having speakers make presentations to staff and the student body regarding bullying
2) Disseminating information regarding bullying to the student body in the form of pamphlets, videos, etc.
3) Addressing bullying through classroom guidance sessions
4) Addressing bullying district-wide as a discipline issue
5) Reducing the occurrence of bullying office referrals by 5% for the 2008 - 09 school year
