Carl Junction student named National Merit Semifinalist
Carl Junction High School senior, Cade Wilkerson, has been selected as a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
Approximately 16,000 students, out of about 1.5 million who entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 PSAT/NMSQT, were named as semifinalists. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of the U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, provide information on academic records, participation in sports and activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to advance to the Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. Finalist designation will be announced in February.
Cade is the son of Brent and Barbara Wilkerson of Joplin, Missouri.
