2021 Education Awards

Hensley named District Teacher of the Year

Carl Junction celebrated the best of our community and schools at the 2021 Community & Education Awards Banquet on April 22 held at the Twin Groves Event Center.

Intermediate and Junior High Gifted Teacher Rachel Hensley was honored with the top education award as District Teacher of the Year. Hensley also received the Secondary Teacher of the Year and was the Junior High Teacher Impact winner.

Second-Grade Teacher Anna Brock was the Elementary Teacher of the Year and was also the Primary 2-3 Teacher Impact Award winner.

Additional Education honors included:

  • Elma Benavidez – EC/K1 Teacher Impact Award
  • Kari Buffer – Intermediate Teacher Impact Award
  • Sophia Gutierrez – High School Teacher Impact Award
  • Erin Wilson – High School Teacher Impact Award

These teachers were nominated by community members, students, parents, or other staff members through our "Teacher Impact Award" process, selected by their building administration, then interviewed and chosen by an objective external panel.

The Carl Junction Nursing Staff was honored as the 2021 Pat Owens Support Staff of the Year. They were recognized as our Frontline Heroes helping to keep students and staff healthy during the COVID pandemic. Nursing staff members include Lead Nurse Stacey Whitney, RN; K-1 Nurse Martha Tate, LPN; Primary 2-3 Nurse Whitney Belk, RN; Intermediate Nurse Amberlee Kendrick, RN; Junior High Nurse Tammy Ball, RN; High School Nurse Bridget May, RN; and Connie Merrithew, RN.

Carl Junction Schools also recognized the 2020 School Partner of the Year Fir Road Christian Church and the 2020 School Volunteer of the Year Lauren Laning.
