Inclement Weather

  • Inclement Weather

Carl Junction R1 School District strives to hold school according to the calendar approved by the Board of Education. However, in inclement weather situations, school cancelations may arise to ensure the safety of CJ students and staff.

When deciding whether to close schools, several factors are considered, including the amount of snowfall, the condition of residential and thoroughfare roads, temperature, and the ability to clear parking lots and sidewalks. District administrators closely monitor local forecasts at the first announcement of severe weather. From there, they travel the roads in various areas of the district.

In most cases, the district decides to cancel school by 6 a.m. on the school day under consideration. The decision is made daily after weather and road conditions have been assessed. Check out the District website for an up-to-date list of activity and event cancelations: www.cjr1.org

If school is canceled or the arrival/dismissal time is affected, an announcement will be made through our automated notification system using phone, text, and email; postings on social media and the district website; and our local television stations.

Parent Portal is the best way to make sure that your home phone, cell phone, and email address are up-to-date: https://sis.cj.k12.mo.us/CJ360x3/login

If the school year is disrupted by emergencies or inclement weather and schools are closed, the school day may be made up according to the approved calendar.
