• POWER WALKING

    The purpose of this class is for students to recognize the importance of physical health through various walking activities. Power walking will reinforce some skill-related components of physical fitness and combine them with daily improvement of health-related fitness components including cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, muscular flexibility, and body composition. Students will also be able to compare and contrast the values of physical activity and the dangers associated with an unhealthy lifestyle. At times, students will utilize heart rate monitors and be able to purchase individual straps if they choose. Students will also be able to utilize Apps to track their distance, calories, etc. Participation is required--students with medical restrictions should not enroll in class. Written assignments cannot be used as an alternative to participation. This class is co-ed. Physical education uniforms are required for this class (gray t-shirt with a minimum of a 9" inseam red shorts) and may be purchased for $10. (One-year, one-credit or one-semester, one-half credit for grades 10-12.) Prerequisite: one full credit of Physical Education I. This course can be repeated for credit. Power walking students may not concurrently enroll in Physical Education or Athletic Physical Training/Weights.
