• CHEMISTRY

Chemistry will help provide students with a foundation for other science courses, as well as college coursework. Chemistry will study matter, its composition, structure, and the changes it undergoes. The structure of the atom, electron configuration, chemical bonding, naming of compounds, and the mathematics of chemistry will be covered. Methods of study will include problem solving, demonstrations, cooperative learning, and labs. Laboratory experiences will include setting up and properly performing various types of experiments. Chemistry students will be working with problems that require manipulation of formulas and numbers. (One-credit, one-year course for grades 9-12) Prerequisite: Algebra I or Principles of Algebra. Students who passed Algebra I in 8th grade may take Chemistry in 9th grade. Recommended grade of “C” or above. All sophomores must be enrolled in Earth & Space Science/Environmental Science, OR Chemistry, OR Biology.
