CADET TEACHING (MSSU EDUC 100 Introduction to Teacher Education)
Cadet teaching is a limited-enrollment course in which students have the opportunity to work in classrooms with Carl Junction teachers in grades K-8; they will also receive instruction in a classroom setting regarding learning styles, teaching strategies, and other techniques for working with students. Cadet teachers will work one-on-one with students, as well as work with their cooperating teacher to create lesson activities, present mini-lessons, etc. Students wishing to participate in this class must complete the application process and be considered a positive role model and representative of CJHS. Students who choose to take this class for dual credit will earn 3 credit hours for Introduction to Teacher Education at Missouri Southern State University, an introductory course designed to inform students about the process of successfully establishing education as a career. This course is required of all MSSU teacher education majors.
This course is repeatable. Students may take the course one time for college AND high school credit. Students may repeat the course one time for high school credit only (maximum of two high school credits total).
High school course prerequisites: Juniors and Seniors Only. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students must have no alcohol or drug offenses and no excessive disciplinary referrals. Students must have own transportation.
Dual credit course prerequisites: (1) Students must meet the admission standards of Missouri Southern State University, (2) Students must pay all applicable fees and tuition to Missouri State Southern University, (5) Student is responsible for cost of books, (6) Students in 11th and 12th grade must have an overall GPA of 3.0, or 11th and 12th grade students with overall GPA of 2.5-2.99 must provide signed letter of recommendation from principal OR school counselor AND parent or legal guardian.
