BAND-COLOR GUARD FIRST SEMESTER
The Carl Junction High School Band-Color guard is a performance-based class for non-instrument playing students who want to learn and perform color guard in marching band. There are numerous commitments outside the school day and all dates will be published on the band calendar by the end of the previous school year. Auditions to make the color guard will occur in fourth quarter of the previous school year. Besides being enrolled in Band-color guard for the fall semester, guard camp occurs during the summer. Students must attend to secure a drill number for competitive marching. Students not in attendance of summer camps will withdraw from the class. Marching band practices at 7:00 am daily and performs for home football games and in area marching festivals. Starting in November, the band-color guard will prepare for the Christmas Parade and any other responsibilities needed by the band. (Half-credit, one semester fine arts elective for grades 9-12.) Prerequisite: Students not currently enrolled in Band need director’s permission before enrolling for the next year. This course may be repeated for credit. There will be fees for this course, however, we can work around financial hardship—see the band director for additional information. Students that are academically ineligible one or more semesters according to MSHSAA academic eligibility guidelines may be reviewed for possible removal from the course.
